Back to Basics: Returning to the Root

Life’s Been Full—But I Haven’t Checked Out

It’s been a little quiet here; not because I lost focus, but because I’ve been holding it down in real life. Balancing work, motherhood, marriage, sports schedules, and laundry mountains that never seem to fold themselves.

I haven’t been drifting; I’ve been surviving.
Staying grounded in the chaos, while quietly doing the deep work of becoming the best version of me. Finishing my wellness certifications, learning, growing, and preparing to come back stronger, not just louder.

I never stepped away from this space in spirit. I’ve just been waiting until I had the clarity and capacity to show up fully. Not with noise, but with purpose.

A Breath of Salt Air and Stillness

We managed to sneak away for a much-needed beach vacation and honestly, it couldn’t have come at a better time. We soaked up the sun, maybe a little too much, and for a few days, we finally breathed. Slowed down. Took it all in. The first thing I did when we got there? I went for a long walk down the shoreline, alone! No noise. No to-do list. Just me, the waves, and God.

I prayed. I listened. I cried a little.
It was the first time in a long time that I felt like I could actually hear Him again.

Watching the Kids Find Their Rhythm

The kids hit the water like they’d been born in it. Bryn jumped straight into surf lessons, bold and grinning. Haze was downing fresh coconuts and body boarding like he belonged out there. And little Gatlin? He was in his element; Digging in the sand and combing through seaweed like a determined little shore crab. Covered in sunscreen and grit, head down and hands full he was in his own world. We collected sea shells and sand dollars. Sand stuck to every inch of our lives and it was perfect. We laughed, we got sunburned, we ate like locals, and we rested the best way we knew how.

Time for Just Us

On our last night, We ate dinner by the marina with tired feet and happy hearts, watched the boats come in, and then walked the jetty as the sun went down. Fishermen were still casting lines. A couple yellowfin being dragged in. Sea turtles bobbing through the waves. The same place we’d watched dolphins earlier jump free and carelessly. It wasn’t a perfect movie scene, but it was real.
And it was needed.

Reality Hit Fast—But Something Shifted

Then we came home, right back into the crazy.
Work. Sports. School. Laundry. The usual grind.
That little island escape felt like a dream we woke up from too fast. But something about it stuck. It reminded me why I care so much about this space. Why I’m so passionate about living well, not just for me, but for the people I love.
It brought me back to the why.

Why Mountain Root Exists

Because Mountain Root Wellness was never about performing. It was always about returning. Holistic wellness isn’t an Instagram trend.
It’s not something you buy into or dress up. It’s not clean counters, green smoothies, or perfectly stacked routines (Though yes, I do love all of those things.)

But real wellness goes deeper.

It’s a way of life that started at the beginning. When God formed us from the dust and breathed purpose into our lungs.

We were made for rhythm, not rush.
Connection, not chaos.
Presence, not perfection.

Real Talk: We’re All Just Trying to Stay Afloat

Most of us are just trying to stay afloat.

  • We want peace, but we’re running on fumes.
  • We want strength, but we’re stretched thin.
  • We want to feel whole, but we’ve been sold shortcuts that never hold.

And just to be clear, trends, supplements, and tools aren’t bad.
They can help. I use them too.

But they’re not the foundation.
They’re support, not solutions.
They assist the healing, but only when you’re already doing the deeper work.

Back to the Root

So, this is me, showing back up, not from scratch, but from the root.

This Back to Basics series isn’t about starting over.
It’s about returning.

To:

  • Hydration
  • Real food
  • Movement
  • Rest
  • Faith

To the rhythms that sustain us especially when life is hard.

It’s not a lifestyle makeover. It’s a lifeline for the people in the trenches. And it’s the reminder I needed, too:

You don’t need to have it all figured out.
You just need to come back to what matters.
This is where we begin again.

We’ll start where life began in the water. Keep watch as we dive into

You write so beautifully! I love reading the pictures that you paint with your words. And how can you be so wise at such a young age in the trenches? Thank you for sharing!
