Be Salty: Rooted in Grit and Purpose

Today I want to shift from the usual “tips and tricks.” Not because eating balanced meals and staying hydrated aren’t important, please do that too, but because sometimes the deeper work isn’t in what we do, it’s in how we think.

Here’s my wellness challenge to you: shift your perspective. Shift the way you see yourself, and the way you see the world. Wellness isn’t about following the latest routine or checking off a list; it’s about consistency, grit, and showing up for yourself every single day.

Bioindividuality & Body Image

Everybody is different. What fuels me may not fuel you, and that’s not failure, that’s design. Too often, we get caught in body image dysmorphia, comparing ourselves to curated feeds and trends. Wellness isn’t about fitting someone else’s mold; it’s about listening to the rhythms of your own body and honoring your unique needs.

Grit: Real Life Isn’t Easy

Life is hard. Even Jesus faced rejection, challenges, and suffering, and He overcame because He had a calling. Grit is choosing to rise anyway, to show up when it’s tough, to persist day after day because your life has meaning and purpose.

Colossians 3:23 says it best: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” That’s parenting, being a coworker, being a friend, or even working on your wellness. The hard truth? The only person who suffers when you don’t give your all is you. Cameron Hanes says it plainly: “Nobody cares, work harder.” And he’s right. Effort, persistence, and showing up fully transform your life more than motivation or trends ever could.

Discipline Over Fads

Trends burn bright, then fade. Quick fixes promise instant results but are not sustainable. True wellness comes from daily consistency, from small, purposeful choices made even when it’s inconvenient. That’s discipline. That’s grit. That’s what builds freedom, energy, and resilience that lasts.

You Are Your Environment

Your environment shapes you. People, habits, and culture influence who you become. To rise above, you must be brave enough to step away from the chaos. Be the 1% that chooses differently. When you do, it doesn’t just transform you; it ripples through your family, your children, your coworkers. Showing up fully shines a light on those around you.

Rooted in Purpose: Be Salty

I always tell my kids: “Be salty.” Not in the sense of attitude, but in the sense of Matthew 5:13-16. You are the light on the hill. You are the salt that flavors the world. People will notice your light, they’ll wonder how you rose above the reaction, how you persevered, how you stayed consistent. And the answer is the root, your foundation.

We are rooted in what God designed us to be: good stewards of our lives, discerning of the world, and aligned with a purpose bigger than ourselves. That root gives grit, stability, and clarity. It allows you to shine even amidst chaos, and the world will notice. Now more than ever, the world needs people who are rooted, consistent, and living fully with courage and integrity.

Mind, Body, Soul: Integrated

Wellness isn’t separate compartments; it’s woven together. Spiritual laziness clouds your mind. Mental fatigue affects your body. Physical depletion disrupts your focus and sense of purpose. Each piece works in harmony for a purpose higher than ourselves. To live fully, we must align all three every day.

We must feed and nurture each component, body, mind, and soul. The grand design isn’t about image or vanity; it’s about being well. When we care for all three, we feel at peace. This is what it means to say, “It is well with my soul,” because the work is done, the foundation is rooted, and we are leaning toward the calling that guides us home. As Paul says in Philippians 3:14, “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Every choice we make, every effort we make, pulls us closer to that purpose.

The Call

Today’s challenge is courage; the courage to think differently, honor your body, and rise above the noise. It’s about showing up for yourself with your whole heart, in parenting, in work, in relationships, and in your wellness journey. Life isn’t about surviving chaos or chasing trends; it’s about living fully, with grit, purpose, and alignment.

We’re ordinary people, imperfect and sometimes stumbling, but when we understand the why behind what we do, everything shifts. Showing up with purpose allows others to look deep within themselves and reflect on their own journey.
